Minister
of Housing and Water Mr. Shaik Baksh and team of
officials from the ministry visited Mosquito Hall
Housing Scheme and neighbouring River View Squatting
Area at Mahaica on the East Coast Demerara.
A
press release said Mr. Baksh and his team met with
residents and members of the Community Development
Committee of the two adjacent areas and examined the
quality of infrastructure works, which are currently
being done in the area.
These
include 2,500 feet of road network with sand and loam
finish; 5,000 feet of internal drainage; 700 feet of
macro drainage and 10 culverts. The total contract sum
for the works is $16 million, the release said.
According
to the release, residents told the minister and his team
that they are extremely happy with the works being done
and the water supply they are receiving.
Minister
Baksh assured residents that the works would be
completed early in the New Year.
The
main access road and some of those currently being done
will be sealed during next year, he said
Residents
expressed satisfaction with the works being carried out
in the two areas and the accompanied the minister and
team through the areas to take a first hand look at
development works taking place.
Early
last week a television owner visited Mosquito
Hall and aired footage of a swampy area, which
he said was allocated for house lots.
However,
ministry officials have denied this and explained that
the swampy area was not part of the design layout for
the land earmarked for housing development.
