Annandale resident executed by bandits
- two policemen injured, villagers beaten
A 28-year-old fisherman was killed last night at Sand Reef, Annandale, and at
least two policemen slightly wounded as gunmen continued their reign of terror
on the East Coast of Demerara.
In an attack reminiscent of last Friday night's raid in Coldingen, Anthony
Parsram aka Richard was shot dead around 20:50 hrs by a gang of five marauding
bandits who then raided several homes in the squatter community.
Parsram, who had jumped through his window to escape, was pursued and dragged
back close to his house where he was cold bloodedly executed.
Three other residents were beaten and relieved of small amounts of cash and
jewellery.
Kaieteur News understands that the police were ambushed when they responded to
the report of the attack.
There are reports that another body with gunshot wounds was seen in the
village of Buxton, but so tense was the situation that police were reluctant
to venture into the village to confirm this.
Harichand Lall, a fisherman, said that the men came from the direction of the
seawall.
He told Kaieteur News that the men first went into a house that was empty.
They then moved to Parsram's house and kicked down his door to gain entry.
Parsram began to scream for help, but no one responded.
"He jump through de window and one ah de bandits seh 'kill he kill
he'".
The resident said that Parsram managed to run away but was hotly pursued and
caught.
"Dey bring he back and just shoot he," the resident told this
newspaper.
The bandits then went to Lall's house at lot 2, Sand Reef, where they held him
and his family up.
They were pistol whipped by the bandits who demanded cash and jewellery.
Lall's wife Savitrie told this newspaper that she had just retired to bed
after she had finished talking to a neighbour.
"I lie down and I hear a noise. When I look out I see five men. Me tell
me husband they look like police. Dey go to another house where dey shoot de
boy,"
Savitrie Lall stated.
She said she heard Parsram calling for help but could not render any
assistance.
After the gunmen had executed Parsram, they barged their way into the Lall's
home.
"Dey lash me husband in he head and tell he, 'you is de businessman, you
got de money'. He tell dem he nah gat money,"
Savitrie said she took off her earrings and offered them to the men.
They demanded more cash and she ended up handing over $5,000 more.
"When dey get de money, dey lash me in me head and run away. I get so
confused I pick up me baby and run out de house. Is den I see
de man body lying
down deh. I holler fuh me husband," Savitrie Lall stated.
Their son, 25-year-old Surujpaul was also beaten by the bandits.
A police patrol arrived and offered to take the injured only up to the
Annandale main road.
They came under attack while returning to the station.
However, their injuries required no urgent medical attention.
Parsram is the second East Coast resident shot dead by bandits in less than 48
hours.
Early Saturday morning, nine-year-old Christine Sookra was murdered when
bandits riddled her family's house with bullets in a
20-minute terror spree in Coldingen.
The second attack occurred a few hours after acting Home Affairs Minister and
a team of top government officials had visited Coldingen.
The PPP appears to be surrendering Guyana to the criminal elements. They are either unable or unwilling to deal with these criminals, they are a sad example of a weak government. Why are there no special forces created to deal with the Buxton question? What is the PPP waiting on? Do they not understand the responsibility of governance? These are the questions that demand an answer from the people who elected this government.
