Corbin was the man in charge of the electoral machinery during the PNC’s regime and also the person in charge of “rigging.” Both Burnham and Hoyte (1985) would have been very grateful to him for his services.
Corbin
held several portfolios under Hoyte, the most famous (or infamous) being his
tenure at the Public Utilities when the “barge scam” to end blackouts took
place. Accused of rape at one point when he was a deputy P.M., he was cleared by
an investigation initiated by Hoyte who had suspended him, and thereafter
reinstated him. Many unsavory stories continued to be circulated around his
personality. Corbin maneuvered deftly and not only survived Hoyte’s purges of
the PNC after 1985, but actually improved his standing.
“I
am Robert Corbin you talk about on television, we will get you at the
appropriate time and make you an example.”
—Allegedly said by Robert Corbin, PNC Chairman, to Kwame McCoy, talk show host known for anti-PNC criticism, who claimed that Corbin threatened him in the Georgetown Public Hospital. Corbin has denied the allegation.
Will
the PNC ask for an inquiry into the brutality and killings in 2002-03?
Mr.
Robert Corbin has spoken about allegations made against himself, Mr. Stanley
Moore and Mr. Rashleigh Jackson when they were all members of the Burnham
Cabinet, and that they resigned when allegations were made against them.
The allegation was made against Robert Corbin that he raped a young woman in his office one Saturday afternoon. Can Mr. Corbin confirm or deny that the medical evidence showed that the girl was bruised, scratched and suffered other injuries consistent with an attack as if by an animal?
