Man remanded over Cove and John armed robbery, rape, buggery

A 21-year-old man was remanded to prison yesterday after he appeared before Chief Magistrate Juliet Holder-Allen charged with two counts of robbery under arms and one count each of rape and buggery.

Delroy Marks of 103 Golden Grove Village, East Coast Demerara, on March 27 allegedly robbed two persons of cash and jewellery before raping and sodomising his female victim.

According to the reports, the two victims, a common-law couple, were walking toward their home along a road in Cove and John when the accused and another man allegedly approached them on bicycles, held them up with a gun and stripped them of their silver jewellery, cash and cellular phones. The stolen items are said to be valued at over $60,000.

The accused allegedly sodomised and raped the woman in the presence of her reputed husband.

The matter was transferred to the Cove and John Magistrate's Court for April 14.
