Why is PR not acceptable now? Thursday, August 19th 2004 |
|
Dear Editor, It was in 1963, that Duncan Sandys, Macmillan and Kennedy conspired to impose the Proportional Representation (PR) system on the citizens of Guyana. Burnham, Peter d'Aguiar of the UF, the Portuguese and Chinese were ecstatic. They hailed this as the final solution to Guyana's problems. From 1964 to 1992 PR served the PNC and Burnham well. Having hijacked the whole political machinery, the PNC ruled Guyana. Today the PNC is claiming that the PR system does not work. One wonders why? Between 1964 and 1992 the PNC damaged every aspect of Guyana's economy, laws and government. They used government funds for their party needs, ruined rice, sugar, bauxite, trade and most government institutions. So what has changed to make the PNC issue a call for a new and different voting system? Yours faithfully, D. N. Singh |
Amnesty International (AI) has long had a history of an
anti-Indian bias and the Government of India has complained of the same.
They also have a long and well documented history of covert acceptance of criminal/terrorist
activity in the name
of liberation.
