As for the letters, we have received more supporting the Phantom squad than opposing it. Not all have been published. It is not our practice to join issue with every letter we disagree with. End

Examine role of US embassy in death squad allegations
IT IS my view that the United States embassy is colluding with criminal elements of the society to besmirch the integrity of high-standing members of the society.

The fact that the embassy is in discussion with these errant individuals and not the police leaves much to be desired. I am of the view, therefore, that in any inquiry held into the death squad allegation, it is imperative that the role of the American embassy in the entire scope of things be carefully examined.

You would recall that the regional security officer of the US embassy was kidnapped a year ago by brainwashed terrorists and child soldiers and taken into Buxton, the stronghold of the PNC, and was released only after payment of a multi-million dollar ransom.

What befuddles me now is that although it is against American security policy to offer ransoms to terrorists, a ransom was paid for the release of this individual.

Readers, this embassy staffer must be made to provide evidence to the police. Otherwise he would be guilty of withholding criminal information, which is unlawful in this country.
