How
was this survey conducted?
Dear Editor,
Frederick Kissoon says “Bollywood performers in films must be white-skinned
and blue-eyed. For more than one hundred years, the Hindi film industry has
not employed even a semi-light hero or heroine.” What skin tone I wonder
is the undisputed king of the Indian screen, Amitabh Bachchan? What skin
colour is Zeenat Aman, Rekha? How about Govinda?
“I have no interest in politics, but if I were to enter formal party
politics, one of my platforms would be the banning of Bollywood films to
this country because of their racist nature and content,” Freddie says.
Thank goodness he has no interest in politics, Freddie obviously has no
future there with such an authoritarian inclination. I wonder what is the
last Indian movie he saw, and which are the films that were racist in nature
and content?
Freddie made many outlandish statements on race following his “survey”.
Could he say exactly how his poll was conducted, how was the sampling
organized, was there a staff, how many days did the survey last, how many
people were questioned, in what age group, what questions were asked, You
know, the kind of issues relevant to a credible poll? Should we take the
results seriously even though “the research went astray and ended up
investigating an unrelated topic”?
Yours faithfully,
